The heart of Fasano is its old town with its narrow streets, white houses and small squares, which has retained the authentic atmosphere of southern Italy. The church of St. John the Baptist with its magnificent Baroque façade and the Minaret Fasano are the landmarks. The Minaret Fasano is an unusual Moorish-style structure built in the early 20th century. the Minarese style was first introduced in the early 20th century by the poet Domenico Morea as a private villa inspired by oriental architecture. Near Fasano is the important archaeological area of Egnazia, where you can admire the remains of the Roman city, including the amphitheatre, the walls and the necropolis.
